The children have the opportunity to participate in many varied learning experiences which will prepare them as life long learners. These experiences enhance the enjoyment of discovery, or exploration, and the freedom of choice to participate. Literacy and numeracy skills are improved by learning experiences that encourage reasoning, problem solving, persisting with difficulty, social skills etc. There is value in offering your child the opportunity to be him/herself and allowing them the enjoyment of being a "pre-schooler" as we believe this encourages intellectual thinking. Your child's potential is achieved through opportunities to imagine, create, imitate, predict, experiment, express thoughts and ideas, reflect on experiences and evaluate them and propose theories and reasons. These are all achievable through participation in meaningful experiences, mastering skills and play.
Our programme is underpinned by Te Whaariki (Early Childhood Curriculum) as well as the following philosophies form Reggio Emilia (Italy):
- The image of the child: rich in resources, strong competent
- Relationships are central
- The environment as the third teacher
- Teachers and children as learners together – a community of learners
- Research and investigation: working with the interests of the children, teachers extending children's thinking
- "Listening" to children
- The 100 languages of children
- The role of teachers as the provocateur
- Understanding children as individual and group learners
- Parents participating in children's learning
- Collaborating with families
- Making children's learning visible through documentation

Our centre recognises the importance of mealtimes being a social event and by enjoying these occasions, children learn valuable skills and attitudes. It creates an environment that promotes healthy eating. |
